Team Korea enjoyed a podium finish in front of a huge San Francisco crowd where racing has just wrapped up at the opening regatta in the 2012-2013 America’s Cup World Series.
Fresh from the Olympic Sailing Regatta where he claimed the 49er gold medal, Team Korea skipper Nathan Outteridge put in an outstanding effort to deliver Team Korea an overall third place fleet racing result ably assisted by Team Korea crew Troy Tindall, Giles Scott, Mark Bulkerley and Matt Cornwell.
James Spithill for Oracle Team USA topped the fleet racing leader-board after a nail biting finish to the series in a close battle with Luna Rosa Piranha and Team Korea in today’s final fleet race where a good result is required to avoid a tumble down the placings.
Lying third overall going into the determining race Team Korea sailed strongly throughout just pipped in the final leg by Spithill who crossed in second place behind Luna Rossa Piranha securing the hometown favourite the fleet racing victory.
Third place for Team Korea was secured through consistently crossing the line in the front half of the eleven boat fleet across the five race series, Outteridge demonstrating his natural talent and ability to switch sailing disciplines and perform even if practice time is in short supply.
